Millennials State of the Union: Wrap up

Many thanks to the folks who participated in our Millennials' State of the Union series by chatting with us on video, keeping up with the blog, sharing the links with friends, or however else involvement could be orchestrated.

Below we have provided links to each of the videos, and then a couple of links to some State of the Union-related commentaries written from a millennial perspective - or with regard to the generation (ours) - that caught our eye. If it looks like we are missing anything here, please let us know.

Millennials' State of the Union: One Year Later

The 2008 election cycle was an important and historic one for many reasons, though from our perspective the most fascinating element of the cycle centered around the engagement of the millennials, our new civic generation. Young people came out to both primaries and the general election to show their overwhelming support for President Obama, as two thirds voted for him.

Now that a year has passed since the historic election, we will to visit members of the then-so-called Obama Generation who represent differing backgrounds, philosophies and focuses on activism, to find out how they rate the administration. In the next two weeks - in the leadup to President Obama's first State of the Union Address - we will be talking with Millennials about their thoughts and opinions on the past year of governance.

Please feel free to get in touch with us should you care to share any opinions on camera, and, as always, please add your thoughts in the comments section of each post, or over at our Think Tank page on this particular topic.

Millennials Changing America Is Back!

Millennials Changing America is back.

The project started in the summer of 2008 as a wholly anecdotal look at how members of the Millennial Generation get behind change, do good, and view themselves in the context of their generation and society as a whole. The project was inspired by all of the news and conference chatter I was reading and hearing that pointed at these young people in an attempt to make both positive and negative assessments. The undertaking was strongly motivated and encouraged by Morley Winograd and Mike Hais, authors of Millennial Makeover, and fabulous supporters and and advocates for the Millennial Generation, with who I am very excited to launch this revival.

When I returned from the trip, I found myself with hundreds of Millennial contacts, sitting on the Advisory Board of OrganicNation.tv (another awesome traveling documentary project) and teaching media literacy and Internet activism classes for high school and college students. Unfortunately, Millennials Changing America remained somewhat unfinished. Mike, Morley and I, while working together on a related project, thought that rather than letting the initiative sit unfinished, it would be great to bring our mutual, ongoing projects together and keep the conversation going that the Millennials Changing America Tour helped to start.

We will be using the site to highlight some of the interesting folks and projects that we come across, pick the brains of people we're inspired by, and maintain an on-going dialogue about what it means to be a Millennial today. So much of what is written about the generation is referential, and is not consciously articulated by us, its own representatives. Here, we attempt to provide the grounds for doing so, and stimulate an open-ended discourse. Expect documentation in all of its dynamic digital formats.

We look forward to engaging with you soon.
